It’s finally here. The Pangu team have released their iOS 8 jailbreak tool for Mac. It will provide one click jailbreak solution for anyone without Windows computer. Previously, the tool was only available for Windows, which could also be used in a virtual machine in OS X, but it is now native.
This is obviously an ideal situation for anyone with a Mac. This outing was not a huge surprise as the The Pangu team confirmed it was in progress last week, but only mentioned that he “could be out in a few days.” Recently, the Windows version of the tool was updated to version 1.2.1 and bundled with Cydia 1.1.16 which fixed boot loop issues and was present after a backup / restore.
We don’t anticipate any issues with the OS X version of Pangu, but make sure you’ve backed up your iOS 8 device before jailbreaking. If you’re hesitant to jailbreak this time around, Cydia creator Saurik gave Pangu his official Seal of Approval and mentioned that things seemed to be “pretty stable.”
Initially, Pangu’s jailbreak was released as a developer-only version and came without Cydia installed, but since then the team has updated it with English support and various bug fixes. The first version was a big shock to the jailbreak community as the Pangu team kept silent about its development. If you are planning to jailbreak iOS 8, now is the best time ever.
According to a recent Weibo article (translated via Reddit) by a team member, Apple’s iOS 8.1.1 beta fixes the exploits used by Pangu and at this point it’s unclear whether the team is preparing a compatible version for the future. Apple hasn’t released iOS 8.1.1, but as you may know, these things tend to be a bit hit and miss. Once the update is available, Apple will block the ability to install all previous versions on iOS devices and you will be blocked without jailbreaking until another is available, which may not happen until iOS 9.
How to jailbreak iOS 8 with a Mac:
Jailbreaking will open a door of opportunity and new features for iOS 8, but keep in mind that it technically voids your warranty and Apple won’t be able to fix a jailbroken device. The Pangu untethered jailbreak tool for OS X can be downloaded here. Stay tuned for a jailbreak tutorial which will be embedded below and let us know if you have any issues with the tool.
