The real way to reduce e-waste would always be to extend the life of the hardware, make it easier to repair, provide spare parts and software / core hardware updates. But this is currently not very profitable. However, as long as they subtract the price, I would rather be without the trash chargers, as well as the trash headphones.

Sony is due to release an uncompromising epic Pro ultra max compact phone in 2022. Now that everyone’s making one, why wouldn’t Sony do it. And they know very well how to do it. And please, please release our across the world. Not in some markets.

Darknoor, 3 hours agoPlease joke.in fact, that’s exactly how I do: plug the phone into the nb’s usb. via the same cable used for external drives, recharging mouse and keyboard, too. the charger i received with the recently purchased xperia is still in the box. also the ups have a few USB ports, like most home wall sockets
So 10 reduction for a charger which, under the Sony brand, costs the equivalent of an Apple ???
Sony is a joke it always has been and now they are even more joke.
But it’s their way of hammering nails in their coffin, so I’ll let them live in misfortune and torture them creating themselves.

YUKI93, 6 hours agoOn the one hand, it’s hard to believe that even Sony is following in Apple’s footsteps. But then … MoreThe difference here is that unlike Apple and Samsung, Sony gives users the choice of whether or not to have a charger in the box, and also offers a price reduction for those who won’t get the charger.
This is how it should have been done in the first place anyway. It’s pretty sad how Sony is blown up for this, but Samsung and Apple can easily get away with their worst stocks just because they’re popular.

Anonymous, 13 hours agoThink about sustainability and reducing e-waste or eff-off.And buy a charger made in a careless factory, shipped via long haul CO2 emitting trucks and packed in the original box, inside the packing box, filled with paper to keep it stationary.
Cared for. You all bought the “save the environment” scam and these phone makers are dancing with their money raining down on them.

Anonymous, 3 hours agoReduces the price of the phone by ⬠10 and then sells a charger for ⬠20.If you’re on the right track, you would obviously choose the option of having the charger in the box, as the option of not having the charger is entirely up to the user’s choice.
It’s a choice you have, not something you have to do like with Samsung and Apple.

What Sony probably meant was due to Chip Crisis, they are forced to raise the selling price of the retail box to keep making their profits. But they can’t tell, so instead they removed the charger.
I think this is a smart strategy because raising the price of an aging phone would attack the backlash, but you can get away with removing the charger.

no!!! well, what I’m waiting for is a replacement for the “supplied” charger which is quite slow …
but they just deleted it …
not that my load brick on my first xperia, miro, is not working … nor the most recent 1 ii …
but I used to charge with the brick and cable that came with the phone …
so you mean i have to use my charger 1 ii for my next xperia if this continues?
Oh no…
A
there are two key words here “Certain markets” and “Price cut”, so it is justifiable! Sony did not remove it like Crapple and Shamsung

Oh my god people are so stupid. RIP to Sony for “partially” removing chargers, which others have been doing for years?
The hatred that this particular brand gets, I absolutely do not understand. Although they clearly gave a discount too, but De * th to Sony because it’s better.
I doubt you are the only one buying Xperias if you even have any, but I will continue to buy them. Buy yourself a life.
vs
sony chargers cost 20 euros, lying bastards only cut 10
DMX, 13 hours agoHow crazy it is to sell you a phone that needs to be recharged but without the charger, … moreDo you know what’s even crazier? Fairphone was actually the first to do this sort of thing since the inception of the company itself and yet no one was watching them. It wasn’t until Apple did the same that everyone followed suit. Much irony?
Anonymous, 13 hours agoWho would still buy Sony then? I used to be a Sony fan, but not anymore. i bought xperia … moreA friend of mine recently traded in his Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra for a brand new Sony Xperia 1 Mk3. So really, there are still buyers out there.
On the one hand, it’s hard to believe that even Sony is following in Apple’s footsteps. But then again, they already removed the headphone jack until they put it back in the second-gen Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 models. On the flip side, since the 10 Mk3 doesn’t do super-fast charging, any reputable third-party charger can do the job well.
