Digital telecommunications company Indosat Ooredoo closed the first quarter (Q1) of 2021 with a strong performance, maintaining the company’s growth momentum compared to last year.

In a virtual performance update open to media, Indosat Ooredoo saw its revenue growth of 12.6% year-on-year (year-on-year) to 7.3 trillion rupees. Cellular revenue grew 12.5% ​​year-on-year to Rp 6 trillion, while fixed data revenue grew strongly by 15.8% to Rp 1.16 trillion.

At the same time, the corporate sector has shown signs of recovery, with Indosat Ooreedoo’s turnover increasing 17.1% year-on-year to 1.3 trillion rupees.

The company’s profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased 42.5% year-on-year to Rs 3.4 trillion. The report attributes the increase to the combination of revenue growth and profitability, contributing to EBITDA margin growth from 9.7% year-on-year to 46.2% in the first quarter of 2021, the highest point in the last seven quarters.

Indosat Chairman and CEO and CEO Ahmad Al-Neama said in a statement that despite the operational challenges caused by COVID-19, the company has performed satisfactorily to open 2021.

It also increased its customer base by 7% year-on-year to 60 million, with its average revenue per user (ARPU) increasing 11% year-on-year to Rp 32,700 thanks to strong growth of 46% in data traffic compared to at the same time last year.

Also in the first quarter of 2021, Indosat Ooredoo announced the signing of a sale-leaseback agreement with PT EPID Menara Asset Co (Edge Point Indonesia) for more than 4,200 telecommunications towers. The Rp 11 trillion transaction will provide the capital necessary for Indosat Ooreedoo’s growth through further development of its network performance and the launch of innovative digital solutions to increase user experience.

The continued development of its network was also demonstrated by continued 4G investments, adding 14,000 4G BTS throughout the year.

Along with a remarkable financial performance, Indosat Ooreedoo also focused on its responsibilities, especially throughout the pandemic.

Indosat Ooreedoo director and COO Vikram Sinha said the company understands the scope of its role, with employees being its number one priority.
